Jamboree trip for guides
Guides Beverley Yewen from Waiouru, Lee McCann and Rebecca McDougal from Raetihi and Raetihi Guide Leader Stephanie Rodgers all took part in an inter-island Guide jamboree which involved over 4000 girls at Mt Nicholas in the South Island and Morrinsville in the North recently. "Papawai" (land and water) Jamboree began on 3 January in both Mt Nicholas and Morrinsville. The three guides and one leader were all part of the contingent at Morrinsville. Activities in the nine day jamboree included abseiling, horizontal bunjy, BMX, hiking and skateboarding. Each girl had to raise $325 to be able to take part in the jamboree, and although some suffered a little home sickness they had a great time. A third guide from Raetihi, Rebecca Martin, was unable to attend the jamboree as she broke her ankle just days before it began.
