Supermarket extensions planned

Early this year will see the the start of extensions and upgrade of the Ohakune New World Supermarket. The most obvious change will be the move through the wall into the old Trustbank premises plus the extension from the fruit stand to "square up" the building. As there will be an ad-

ditional 33 bays of shelving the entire shop will be 'relayed'. This will include new additions to the store's range, for example wine, plus a far larger range of existing stock. "We will finally be able to have a proper gardening, hardware, manchester, petcare, baby, pasta etc sec-

tions,".said proprietor Alan Murdie. "We will be placing a suggestion box in the present supermarket in January for anyone wishing us to stock a line that we don't at present." Along with these extensions to the range the shop will have electric scanning installed. The equipment that has

been picked is the latest Omron system and Ohakune New World will be the first in New Zealand to go "live" with this particular model. "It has many features that will speed up and greatly improve our accuracy at the checkouts,"said Mr Murdie. Some of the features these tills will have that are not available at the moment are: a negative cheque file (to enable us not to accept"dud" cheques), a cheque writer, Eftpos, totally itemised dockets.better coupon redemption facilities, and a totally accurate charge facility for those clubs, schools, etc, that require it. "We will also be adding the following as

time and money permits: a new three tier pet food meat fridge, a new five tier deli fridge (to replace the two existing ones) a wine cooler, in store hot bread shop, security cameras, an extra kent log fire, extensions to our security system and new checkouts. In hand with these changes the inside of the shop will be repainted and redecorated in the latest colours and trends." "At this stage we hope to close down for four days at the end of February to carry out all this work although the actual building alterations will be completed before this date. As plans etc. become available to us these will be displayed in the supermarket."
