Return: 4pm. Grade: Moderate Cost: Adult-$5, Child-$2, Family-$12 Sunday 5 January Drop Scene Walk 8am: DoC Bus departs Conservation House and travels along the historic River Road to Pipiriki. The walk to this famous river scene departs Colonial House, Pipiriki at Ilam and returns about 4.30pm. Billy tea provided - bring your own lunch and a mug. Return: 6.15pm. Grade: 4 half walking on a good track. Can be tiring in hot weather but there is no hurry. Cost: A-$15, C-$8, F-$38 Monday 6 January Kaimanawa Exploration 8am: DoC There is restricted entry to this land of rolling tussockland, deep gorges and tracts of beech forest. Come and explore this interesting country. (This excursion crosses Defence Department land and may be subject to late alteration). Return: 5.30pm Grade: Easy Cost: A-S24, C-$12, F-$50 Thursday 9 January Evening Walk - Aramoana Walkwav 7pm: DoC and Wanganui Tramping Club Guided walk with evening views of the river, countrywidc and city lights as night descends. The Mangapurua trip offers excellent views of the valley and Whanganui National Park. Bring your lunch. Retum: 9pm. Grade: Very strenuous. A retum walk about 7 hours. Reasonable gradients and good walking surface. Cost: A-S16, C-$8, F-S40 Tuesday 14 January Ahu Ahu Visit 8.00pm: DoC and Ahu Ahu Community Travel by bus to Atene, cross the Whanganui River by jet boat and walk the track into the Ahu Ahu Valley. There is much of interest to be learnt about an altcrnative lifestyle. Lunch, hot and cold drinks providcd, procceds towards new school building. Retum: 6pm Grade: Moderate Cost A-S30, C-S15 Wednesday 15 January Around Mangaweka 9am: DoC Visit the site of Mangaweka's own water supply/electric power station which started in 1911 and ran until 1937. Explore the nature walk. Follow the old Main Trunk Line through a couple of tunnels. Beautiful Rangitikei and Ruahine views. Afternoon tca in Mangaweka. Hcnry and Alison Dorrian (DoC Mangaweka) will be our hosts for today. Bring your lunch. t Retum: 5.00pm Grade: Moderate/easy. Cost: A$20, C-S10, F-$50. Includes afternoon tea.

Saturday 18 January Pitanoi Track 8.00am: DoC and Wanganui Tramping Club Join us in a walk through farm, bush and streamside in the country east of the Whanganui River Road. Billy tea provided at lunch stop - bring a mug and your lunch. Retum: 4.30pm. Grade: Strenuous Cost A-$9, C-$4, F-$22 Monday 20 January Historic River Road 9.30am - 1.00pm: DoC and Historic Places Trust This journey along historic Whanganui River Road will be in the company of Norm Hubbard who has had a long association with historic buildings and sites along the way. Billy tea at Kawana Mill. Spend some time at Pipiriki and retum via Raetihi and Parapapa Road. Retum: 5.30pm. Grade: Easy Cost: A-S17, C-S8.50, F-$42.50 Saturday 25 January Rangiwahia Hut 7.30am: DoC An introduction to the Ruahine range. Walk up the well-formed 11/2*2 hour track to the range's most accessible hut. Bring your lunch and eat it there. Lovely bush, wonderful views, well worth the effort. Retum: 6pm. Grade: The walk into the hut is uphill but the track is well formed. There will be no hurry and an arm to lean on if you need it. Cost: A-$18, C-S9, F-$45 Tuesday 28 January DoC and Ahu Ahu Community 8.30am This is the second of two trips to the settlement this season. Bring your lunch. Cost includes hot and cold drink. Proceeds towards new school. Return:6.00pm. Grade: Moderate Cost: A-S22, C-$12, F-S56 Friday 31 January to Monday 3 February Matemateaonga Tramp 2.00pm Ever thought you would like to give tramping a go and never got around to it? Then this not too difficult tramp along the Matemateaonga track, followed by a river trip down to Pipiriki might be for you. You will be accompanied by DoC staff with years of experiehce of this journey. On Day One you will be transported to the Kohi Saddle in East Taranaki and then walk to the Omaru hut (1 1/2 hour walk). Day Two will take you to Pouri Hut (5 hours) - for the more energetic a side trip to the summit of Mt Humphries offers a breathtaking view of both Tongariro and Mt Egmont National Parks. Day Three will end at Puketotara Hut, high above the Whanganui River. On Day Four you descend to the river (1^2 hours) and board the boats to Pipiriki. Transport will be waiting to retum to Wanganui.

There will be a briefing for participants at Conservation House on Wednesday 29 January at 7.30pm. Cost: $315 Bookinas Bookings for all excursions should be made at reception desk Conservation House, cnr Dublin Street and Victoria Avenue. Between 8 am and 4pm Monday to Friday. Payment must be made at time of booking. Withdrawals notified four days prior to excursion - full refund. Withdrawals at shorter notice - refund subject to seat being resold. Refunds will be made by cheque payable to person(s) booked and forwarded by mail. Refunds will not be available at reception desk.
