Ski the summer!

Whakapapa Ski Area are able to confirm that they will operate for skiing on fine days over the Christmas/New Year holiday period. Lifts will be available for skiing from Friday 27 December 1991 through until at least Sunday 5 January. Daily operating hours will be 8am till 1pm.

Facilities available will be: Centennial and Waterfall Express Chairlifts for access and sightseeing, Knoll Ridge and Valley T Bars for skiing, Cinder Track Platter for beginners, Top-O-the-Bruce and Knoll Ridge Cafeterias. All necessary equipment will be available for rent and Ski School will op-

erate for private lessons. Lift passes for skiing will be priced at $20 for adults and $10 for juniors. There will be no special rates for students ■ and regretfully 1991 season passes only applied for the winter and will not be valid during this summer skiing operation. "This is certainly a

unique experience that is available due to the excessive snow falls of the 1991 winter and the relatively cold spring and early summer" said' Dave Mazey, General Manager. "We look forward to sharing some summer skiing with our regular skiers and hopefully some families or

individuals may like to try the sport for the first time." The 'Summer Alpine Magic' sightseeing pro-' gramme will also operate from 14 December 1991 through to 2 February 1992. Sightseers are able to

enjoy two chairlift rides to a height of 2,000m above sea level. There is still plenty of snow to play in and panoramic views of the Tongariro National Park to enjoy. For the more energetic - The Department of Conservation and Whakapapa Ski Area

have joined forces to run daily guided walks to the Crater Lake. Further information regarding the 'Summer Alpine Magic' programme and summer skiing can be obtained from the Whakapapa Customer Service Office 07-892-3738.
