Taumarunui hospital seeks local support
Waimarino people are asked to support Taumarunui Hospital through the present health system review, if only to preserve their option to cross the health board area boundary and use the hospital. Taumarunui surgeon Paul Malpass of the Taumarunui Health Liaison Committee said last week the group was seeking support from Waimarino people for
the hospital. He said there were advantages to Waimarino people to have the option of using the hospital, if only for secondary hospital care. The hospital runs a reasonable service and, while it is not high-tech or highly specialised, access to hospital care covering common operating procedures is reasonably quick and easy. He said it is the first
accredited hospital in the country outside a pilot scheme, which means it has been surveyed by a team consisting of a medical officer, administration officer and a nursing officer (who were from Australia). The accreditation was the highest possible which means the hospital has the best administration policies, equipment, nursing training and medical situation.
