Swim club winds up

The Waiouru Swimming Club finished the year with water games and a sausage sizzle, followed by prize givrng last week The Club commences lessons early February next year. It is one of Waiouru 's more popular clubs, having over 100 members. There are five classes, catering for different skill levels. The beginner's class Algae Nippers concentrate on water confidence, then on to Tadpoles class, followed by Shrimps, Dolphins and Sharks. There has been a new coach appointed, Peter Kalivati. Nina Waru, a swimming coach, said she has been delighted with the progress of the children. This was evident at a recent carnival in Palmerston North,

the results from the Waiouru swimmers were outstanding. As well as attending local carnivals, the club holds regular clinic days and monthly time trials. "I would like to thank Kate Chivers and Wendy Newman who are leaving, and thanks to all the supportive parents and especially the children." The results at Prizegiving were: most improved, Charisse Stephens and Kane Tamou; most perseverance, Oriana Paul and Apera Uriarau; highest attendance, Cherie Newman and Raymond Hinton; best overall swimmer in respective age groups, Raymond Hinton, Tracy Hinton, Kaine Harris and Charmaine Mateara.
