Raetihi' s Seddon Street on Saturday will be packed full of fun for children, stalls set up by community groups and bargains in the shops for Christmas.

A coconut shy is to be set up near Clowns Also planned, for Christmas Eve , are free pictures for children at the Royal Theatre, starting at 2.30pm.

Community and sports groups are invited to set up stalls in the street to raise funds or promote their activities. So far there will be stalls by the Country Women' s Institute, Guides and Brownies, the Anglican Church, the Community Advice Service (a sausage sizzle) and Turoa Tumblers. At 10am children who want to be judged in the Fancy Dress competition will gather near the park opposite the Wellington Cafe. Mrs Keitha Journeaux has more details. Between 10am and 10.30 there will be a "needle in the haystack" competition where contestants have to find ice block sticks amongst the hay. Father Christmas arrives at 10.30am on the Raetihi vintage fire engine and will walk about the town I giving away sweets. Fire engine rides will again be on for > the children. The Ruapehu Lions mini motor bikes will be racing, and a hangi organised by the Ratana Church will be organised.
