Mountain road money

• Maybe the majority of ratepayers must live up the Mountain Road to the Turoa skifields. Well it seems that way when ratepayers are told there is a shortage of money for roading in the area and then in the paper we read that more expensive work is to be done on the Ohakune Mountain Road. While ratepayers are having to put up with substandard roads etc the council regardless of cost go ahead putting money into anything to do with skiing and tourism, giving the excuse that everyone gains from it. When are ratepayers going to wake up and realize that there is a certain sector of the business people who are connected with tourisim and skiing who are only interested in lining their own pockets and the RDC can't wait to pander to their every wish to keep themselves in with the so called members of local society. As for appointing a marketing manager this just proves what I have said money being wasted on something that is totally unnecessary. The figures quoted in the paper to set up a marketing manager were $88,000, so let me tell

you that the total rate return for Rangataua township was approximately $95,000 so that would take care of that. This is one of many issues that rate payers should have the right to vote on, after all it will fall back on all of us to pay for something from which only a few will gain.

Thanks • On behalf of all the adults who rode in the Gymkhana on December 15 at Warren's farm I would like to thank the members of the Ohakune Pony Club who ran the day. They did all the secretarial duties, judged, acted as stewards, ran the games, time kept for show jumping and rebuilt jumps as required and did a first class job which was appreciated very much and enjoyed by all. Twenty riders from Ruatiti to Waiouru competed in the two rings. Members who helped were: Fiona Evans, Melanie Mitchell, Rachel and Shelly Gotlieb, Adrian Fetzer, Dawn Workman, Victoria Duigan, Amy-Cherie Woon, Honi Brausch, Robbie Hill and Connie Cooper with help from a few of their non-member friends.
