Local man starts security firm

ADVERTORIAL The Waimarino has a much-needed security service starting this week. Ohakune man Thomas Mareikura has set up the night security firm, after six months' applying for licenses, planning, finding sponsors buying a vehicle and setting it up for security work. Thomas said the licence application involved gaining references from the police and his employers, and quoting his five years' experience in security services, primarily at nightlife situations in Ohakune. He has worked at the Karioi pulp mill since 1978, but plans to carry on working there. "The reason I started Ohakune Night Life Security was because I wanted to start up my own business, and I wanted to create jobs for people," said

PROFILE Thomas. He said he plans to employ more people as business increases.

Sponsors have helped Thomas set up the service, including Rick & Vicki Lowe at the Ohakune Hotel, Dave Scott and Wanganui Motors, and Independent Packaging from Palmerston North. Ohakune Night Life Security Service will be providing security checks on industrial, commercial, rural, residential and holiday properties at various rates (see advertisement). As well as patrols in the security truck, ONLS security guards will use unmarked cars, said Thomas, and later possibly even bicycles. Thomas said

in the ski chalet areas where they are sited close together it could

prove easier and quicker to patrol on bicycles. Application forms for the service, complete with prices, are available in Ohakune from the Ruapehu Bulletin office, Ruapehu Visitor

Centre (Clyde Street), Dixon Hire Centre, "Scott Base" Wanganui Ford (Clyde Street), and in Raetihi from Elders Pastoral (Seddon St), Raetihi Information Centre (Seddon St).
