Waiouru Police File

It's not that there hasn't been anything happening since my last column, it's just that Pat and I have both had a welcome spot of leave. Plenty has been happening, and now we are both back into it again. • Four people were arrested last week. On Tuesday, a 31 year old local man was arrested for making a false statement to Police. He will appear in the Taihape District court next month. On Friday morning a tradesman employed with a local construction company was arrested for assaulting a female. He will also make an appearance next court date. Early on Sunday morning, two out of town females were arrested for being unlawfully in a building after being discovered by a soldier in one of the barracks. A 28 year old woman and a 23 year old woman from Wanganui will appear in the Taihape court on the 9 December. • Twice in the space of a week burglaries of the Waiouru golf club have occurred . In the first burglary, a large quantity of alcohol, money and cigarettes were stolen. The offenders also damaged some of the greens. In the second burglary, the offenders entered the premises and stole confectionary and cigarettes. It is not believed that the two incidents are related, but we would appreciate any help form the members of the public. • Also of concern is that we are starting to get reports of cars being broken into and property stolen from them. Especially from around the RSA and pub car parks. Please ensure that your vehicle is secure and that you don't leave attractive items in view such as cameras, handbags etc. • With Christmas just around the corner, many people will be getting ready to go on vacations. Make sure that your house and property are secured and that you tell someone that you will be away and to keep an eye on your house. Let the Military Police or ourselves know that you will be away and we can keep an eye on the premises while on patrol. To test the security of your premises, imagine that you have lost your house key or have been locked out. How easy would it be to get into the house? • Christmas parties, barbies and functions are already into full swing. All the drinking establishments in Waiouru offer free soft drinks to the non drinker for the night or the night's 'lifesaver'. the shuttles will also be operating. Please utilise these facilities and services offered and don't get caught drinking and driving over the festive season. Although there are still a few that are not heeding warnings, we are extremely pleased to see that the majority of people stopped at check points or pulled over by a mobile patrol are being responsible. • This week sees the total revamp and renovation of our Police Station. The interior of the station is undergoing a complete face lift which will make the place a more comfortable place to work and more attractive to members of the public. We apologise for any inconvience that this may cause but please bear with us for the next week. At the completion of the renovatons, Traffice Officer Mike Lenihan will also move into the Police Station. • With the support of the Oasis Hotel, we are currently discussing the option of purchasing a cellular phone for our vehicle. this should alleviate the problem with those who encounter the dreaded 'answer phone'. This will enable us to answer all calls to the station even when we are on patrol Hopeully this will occur early in the new year. Failing that, I guess we could alwasy buy Spot, the telecom dog. • Have a safe week.
