Phone Nos change Friday
Telephone numbers in the area change to seven digits on Friday. Ohakune, Raetihi and Waiouru all fall under the STD code of "6" after the change, with the first four numbers after the STD code for Raetihi being 3854 or 3853; for Ohakune, 3858 or 3859, and for Waiouru, 3876. Telecom has advised
that the free calling area for customers will not change, so despite not having to dial an STD code, it will still be a toll-call between Ohakune or Raetihi, and Waiouru or Taihape. Telecom says the changes are to make it easier to make calls to other parts of the
country. By the time the numbers update is complete there will be just five STD codes in the whole country,. as opposed to the previous 80. New telephone directories are being delivered at present, which include the new numbers.
