25 year's fire service
Around 150 friends,, associates and family members gathered at the Ohakune Primary School hall on Saturday night to honour local husinessman and volunteer fireman Alan Murdie who was presented with a Gold Star medal, a distinction earned by 25 years service to the Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade. On hand were officials from the United Fire Brigade Association to present the award, as well as a near full muster of the Ohakune brigade, with a sprinkling of well-wishers from the Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade. Special mention was made of Alan's wife Karen, for her role as supporter (and sympathetic nurse) during Alan's 25 year stint. Alan is pictured being congratulated by Chief Fire Officer Max Martin, with Karen looking on.
