Train visit

Ohakune played host, briefly, to 450 railway passengers last Saturday week when the 10-car-riage Wanganui Chronicle 'Railranger' excursion train, hauled by two DC locomotives, stopped for more than an hour at the Junction. The local MTRO (Main Trunk Rail Ohakune) group were there to welcome them with a range of activities which included a sight-seeing bus trip up the Mountain Road (56 visitors opted for this activity), a bush walk, a drive to the Hapuawhenua Viaduct (to watch a demonstration of bungy jumping), a visit to the Waimarino

Arts and Crafts Society at the Junction to see a display of work and enjoy some Devonshire tea, a short walk to the Ohakune Action Park where visitors were treated to a ride on the high wire flyer, or simply to buy souvenirs and refreshments from the stalls which had been set up on the station platform.
