Waiouru gala successful

BY

JOANNA

SAUNDERS

The Waiouru Primary School ran their first Desert Gala to raise money for the school and local organisations on Saturday. Over 30 organisations from within the Waimarino area took part in the gala with approximately another fifteen organisations coming from as far away as Taupo and Ashurst. Despite the deteriorating weather the local community turned out to support the stall holders, who were reasonably pleased with how much had been sold. Organisers of the gala have plans to alter the site of the gala next year, to allow all stall holders to be in the same area instead of being either side of school buildings. The total amount raised at the gala was not available at the time of going to press but was thought to be between $5000 and $6000.

Apart from the money raised by the school, the Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess donated $3,000 towards the upgrading of the computers that are used by the junior and senior school. The money will also be used to develop the library.
