Burglary rife

• Three beehives, complete with bees, were stolen from a paddock in Ohura Road sometime in October. • A container on the back of a truck parked at Karioi Forest Headquarters was broken into on Monday night, 4-5 November, and a Husqvarna chainsaw and water blaster with a red Honda motor stolen. • On Saturday night a garage in Raetihi was burgled and a Stihl chainsaw taken. • Police arrested a local man, 21, and recovered a quantity of property taken from the Turners & Growers depot in Old Station Road, Ohakune. The man has been charged with burglary. • The burglary of a Miro Street, Ohakune chalet was discovered on Saturday. A quantity of clothing and ski gear was taken. • At 4am Sunday morning thieves/vandals smashed a $1000 window and took two bottles of port wine from Waimarino Wines in Goldfinch Street, Ohakune. • Sunday night Wellington Cafe in Seddon Street, Raetihi ,was broken into. • Police believe a truck would have had to be used in the burglary of a Ruapehu Road, Ohakune property Monday last week. Among property taken was: a lounge suite consisting of a two seater and two three-seater couches, a Belgian rug, cane glass topped coffee table, cast-iron cauldron and kettle, liquor, sleeping bags, ski jackets, ski clothing, ski glasses, perfume, torches, an electric razor, electric drill, skilsaw and various other tools, a splitting axe, lawnmower, a bicycle, and four doors. The thieves also caused a large amount of damage, throwing remaining property around and pouring wine on the carpet, destroying it. • Ohakune police have recovered some stolen property but don't know yet who it belongs to. If anyone is missing a petrol-powered weed-eater or a CB radio network, they are asked to contact the Ohakune police station. • Keith Harford of Raetihi Hardware was called to his shop at 2.55am last Thursday in response to his burglar alarm. He found a front plate glass window smashed ($500) and one Panasonic 21" TV worth $1200 stolen. Further investigations during daylight found that various other TV's and cabinets in the window display had suffered damage from flying glass as the burglar smashed the window. Total damage and losses are expected to exceed $8,000. Police executed a search warrant in relation to the burglary but the property was not recovered. • A chalet in Miro St Ohakune was burgled between 28 October and 6 November and items of kitchenware and food stolen. • A shed near a Rangataua house was burgled between 4 and 7 November and two westem saddles worth $1000 each stolen.
