Burglary rife
A rash of burglaries hit the Waimarino last week and people are urged by Police to secure their property and to report any suspicious activity. Of particular concern was the burglary of the Raetihi Playcentre in Duncan Street where thieves stole a microwave oven, sometime on Friday night Saturday morning. • The Ohakune Fire Station was broken into on Wednesday night-Thursday morning and a quantity of liquor stolen. Waimarino Wines was also broken into but nothing was reported taken. • The same night Jean City clothing store in Clyde St was burgled. Thieves smashed the front window and stole 12 pairs of Levi jeans and two T shirts. • Bucks Drapery was also broken into that night and a pair of boxer shorts and a rugby jersey stolen. The items were worth about $50 but the thieves caused about $1000 worth of damage. • Parklands Dairy was broken into on Tuesday night and cigarettes and tobacco stolen. Rendezvous Dairy was burgled, also by smash-and-grab, and cigarettes stolen. • A house in Duncan Street Raetihi was broken into Wednesday night Thursday morning and a colour TV, stereo, microwave oven and a quantity of frozen food stolen. • Images Hair Salon was burgled Saturday - Sunday, where thieves smashed the front window and took a hair drier, electric trimmer, extension cords, a radio cassette player and tapes. • A holiday home in Ruapehu Road, Ohakune was burgled between 28-30 October and an Echo chainsaw taken. Thieves levered a window open with a screwdriver. • Sometime between Monday and Thursday a house in Lee Street Ohakune was broken into and an extensive list of property taken, including a chainsaw, skilsaw, brushcutter, microwave oven, Sony stereo, and Goretex ski gloves. The thieves gained entry by forcing a bedroom window with a screwdriver. • Turners & Growers warehouse in Old Station Road was broken into last week and wet weather gear, Roundup weed spray and an Okey mobile phone stolen. • A van parked in Miro Street was broken into on Saturday night and a rechargable torch and tools taken. • A house in Ruapehu Road was burgled on the weekend and a large amount of property taken.
