Len Smyth of Ohakune runs out of the Tongariro National Park at Mahui Camp Ground on Saturday, the first day of the three-day Lifespan Mountains to the Sea triathlon. As an individual competitor, Len was just an hour into the 287 kilometre race, which started with a 20km run to National Park, a 61km cycle to Taumarunui, a 35km canoe paddle to Whakahoro-that's on the first day. Day Two was an 87km paddle to Pipiriki and Day Three was a 30km run to Koriniti, a 54 km cycle to Castlecliff at Wanganui.
