Spain trip for Maori performer

Maungarongo Marae's Aroha MareikuraClarkin has beeil selected for the New Zealand Maori concert party which is to perform at Expo 1992 at Seville in Spain. Following rehearsals next February, she will travel to Spain to take her place in the line up in early August, performing in the "last shift" until Expo ends in September. She is one of 31 performers picked from 300 auditioners for the

places in the party, led by Max Crier. The tour involves five performances a day at the New Zealand Expo pavilion, and a strong emphasis has been placed on physical fitness for the trip. Aroha said there was a lot for her to learn to match the style of performance of the tutors, who follow a style of performance more well known in Gisborne. The performance will include poi, action songs and haka for the men.
