Public priorities for parks sought
The conservation Department (DoC) wants to know what people think their priorities should be in their next Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) for the Tongariro/Taupo area. Under the Conservation Law Reform Act 1990, the Tongariro/Taupo Conservancy is preparing one CMS, which is to cover the following 10 years and also directs annual budgeting and works programmes. The document has to set out the government's priorities as well as those of the tangata whenua and the general public. The CMS was commenced in August and carries on through the financial year.
