MWRC support
Support for the Manawata Wanganui Regional Gouncil came from the Ruapehu District Council last week. The RDC moved to support the MWRC in retaining their present name. The council said the cost of a name change, estimated at $40,000, could not be justified. The RDC also expressed disapproval of the MWRC members' remuneration, which they said was far too high considering the present economic climate. There was some discussion on whether the RDC should make such comment, and Cr Murphy said as elected representaives of ratepayers, it was perfectly in order for them to pass comment.
