Board rejects criticism

The Waimarino Community Board at their last meeting rejected a ticking off from Council officers, following a board resolution expressing disappointment at the delay in handling the Ruatiti property sale. Council corporate services director John Murrihy said in a report that he and his staff were perplexed at the resolution. He outlined the procedure to dispose of the property, and put some of the blame back on the Board. "It should also be mentioned that the Board's action in the initial deferment of this matter caused much of the delay to an innovative and acceptable solution to a complex problem," said Mr Murrihy. Board member Bill Peach said the point was the first solution was

not "acceptable". "There is only one Ruatiti Domain," said Mr Peach. He said it was fair to give everyone an opportunity to tender for the land. Council general manager said perhaps it was best for the Board and staff to agree to disagree on the matter. The delays were not brought about by staff 'sitting on their hands', stressed Mr Houston. The board finally agreed to receive the report.
