Council fees re-scehduled

Fees for processing subdivision applications and the like were passed at last week's special Ruapehu District Council meeting. The fees were based on the previous fees structure, under the old town planning laws. The fees had to be passed because the old schedule was no longer valid with the enactment of the new Resource Management Act 1991. An addition to the structure relates to District Plan changes, where the council will now charge a fee of $500 to cover the administration costs involved with the preparation of a plan change. Councillor Snow asked if the fees schedule compared with other districts, and was told some other district's fees were lower, some the same. Council general manager Cliff Houston said the Ruapehu fees were pitched to cover costs, while other councils subsidised fees from the general rate.
