Ketetahi tussock
Tongariro/Taupo Department of Conservation field and office staff planted more than 1,500 tussocks and alpine plants along the re- > cently upgraded Ketetahi Track on Mt Tongariro, last week. The planting was part of continued work being carried out by the department on the popular Ketetahi track. Seed for the Ketetahi
plants was ecosourced (collected) from the Ketetahi area. This means that the plants are generally suited to the region and have a better chance of survival. Revegetation alongside the track will help to stabilise the area and to prevent erosion. It also encourages people to stay on the track.
