Another successful Raetihi spring show!
The judges at the Raetihi Garden Club's Spring Show presented a special merit Award to Pixie Chambers for her double cream Antirrihinum (Snap Dragon). The judges Margaret Brewer and Ann Cast, from Wanganui, made special mention of the outstanding bloom and so gave the special award. Bev Kerr won the champion bloom with one of her entries while Sue Deadman won both the Ashwell Cup, for the aggregate for Narcissus, and the Points Cup, for aggregate for Narcissus and cut flowers. Pat Olds took the Tizard Cup for cut flowers and shrubs. The 42nd Annual Spring Show was held at the Waimarino Club Hall on 19 September. The judges. were impressed with the standard of the entries commenting on the good variety and colour as well as the freshness of the entries. The trading table was the best for several years with an overwhelming response of donations. Unfortunately the cups for the children's sections have been mislaid and if anyone knows where they are could they please let Alison Seifert know. The Garden Club would appreciate the return of these. Results: Class A Trumpets, Mrs E Bowater. Class B Large Cup, Mrs S Deadman, Class C Small Cup, Mrs S Deadman. Class D Double, Mrs J Nutting and Mrs S Deadman. Class E Miscellaneous, Mrs S Deadman. Class F Cut flowers, Mrs S Deadman. Class G Shrubs and
trees, Mrs P Olds. Class H Pot Plants Mrs C O'Neill. School childrens Class K (11 years and over, Collection of spring flowers or floral arrangement), Jason Bright. Class L (8, 9, 10 year olds, Moss Garden in flat container), George William. Class E (7 and under Buttonhole), Sean Hammond and David Brown. Class L (Preschoolers),Emma Anderson, Ricky Hammond, Amy Robinson. The judges commented on the entries in Class M for 5, 6, and 7 year olds. "There were a lot of entries and they were well presented."
