Work starts on bank development
The end of November is the target for Peter Richards Builders to complete the new Ohakune TrustBank premises, hairdressers and dentists' rooms. The construction project in Goldfinch Street, next to the New World carpark, is the first stage in a redevelopment of the block through to Ayr Street. The development, which was primarily designed to provide new, and larger premises for TrustBank, is also to provide accommodation for a hairdresser and a surgery for two dentists. The Lockwood construction method will be used. Builder Peter Richards is the developer for the project and he will be leasing the property to the occupiers, including the bank. The move follows a call for tenders by the bank. The new bank premises will be 220 square metres and will include seven teller spaces plus the automatic teller machine. The dentists' surgery is to be 63sqm and the hairdresser's, 40 sqm. The house presently occupied by a dentist has been sold, said Mr Richards, and it is planned to move it to a Raetihi site. Future development plans include up to eight shops along to Ayr Street as demand arises, said Mr Richards. Extensive carparking will be made available at the back of the site. ' Following negotiations from the supermarket's proprietor, Alan Murdie, the New World carparking area is to be extended four metres to meet the bank development, making for easier manoeuvreing in the parking area. Also possible in the future is a covered walkway from the bank development, across the carpark entrance, to the front of the supermarket. The present TrustBank premises are to be taken over by the supermarket, once the new development is completed.
