Fast fun

Winner of the New Zealand Winter Games 12km fun run from Raetihi to Ohakune on Sunday was Grant Cann from HMNZS Irirangi, Waiouru. He completed the run well ahead of the rest of the field in 36 minutes 31 seconds. The first woman to cross the line was Marlene Woods from the Chateau Tongariro who achieved her ambition of completing the run in under 50 minutes by clocking a time of 49 minutes 03 seconds. A disappointing field of only 12 runners competed in this first medal winning event of the Games with many of the competitors coming from outside the area.
