New World Rumbo Rally Team
Alan and Graham Murdie gratefully thank their sponsors, GODDARDS AUTO ENGINEERING, WEBB TOYOTA RAETIHI) and OHAKUNE NEW WORLD for another fairly successful rally season. Following last years 2nd overall and 2nd in class we finished 6th overall and 3rd in class in the Central Region Rally series. Our support crew of BEN GODDARD, MARTY WEBB and STU ENNIS with the occasional help of Louis Hanright and Kelly Nickolson certainly kept us going through a tough and trying year. A blown heater hose in round 1 (Ohakune) caused our first DNF when we subsequently blew a head gasket. A motor rebuild plus a little "hotting up" got us going for Hastings. Here we had spark plug problems for two stages until "McGyver Goddard" figured it out. Taumarunui we hit a bank in stage 1 which shortened the car by 2 inches on the drivers side. Marty and Stu worked hard on the day to fix the suspension, but we did finish with a good result (3 spins, 1 fence and 1 puncture later) The daybreaker, no problems. Taupo lots of little problems caused through very rough roads. Hitting a tree in excess of 100mph plus a rolled car blocking one stage put paid to a certain 2nd place in class. To the lads wives: - TRISH GODDARD, BRENDA WEBB, SU MURDIE and especially my wife KAREN a very big thanks for letting the boys out to play! To the mechanics, a huge thanks for the many hours you put in, in both BEN's workshop and in the middle of no where on the rallies. We just simply wouldn't be there without you. And finally, special thanks to GRAHAM MURDIE for having faith in me and for aiming your side of the car. It amazes me that you manage to get us from A to B in the middle of the Boondocks on time. ALAN MURDIE
