Taupo chopper service chosen

The Waimarino Helicopter Rescue Trust service is safe, at least in the mean time, following an invitation from the Area Health Board's invitation to Wanganui Aero Works to continue to provide services. The invitation followed the decision to go for a Palmerston North based air ambulance and rescue helicopter. WAW managing director Rick Harding

has said the decision, although followed by the invitation, could affect his company. He said if the Palmerston North based helicopter cost "about $7000 to $8000" a year then a decision would probably be made to increase its workload by pushing its activities into this area. Board assistant general manager Jeff Small said the Phillips Squirrel would complement the Aero Works service.
