Waiouru teacher farewelled Waimarino golf

During the last week of term, Waiouru Primary School farewelled

Mr Pohatu by presenting items during a special assembly. Mr Pohatu has been

teaching at the school for 30 years, including a short relieving period at Ngamatea School. He moves from a senior teaching position at Waiouru, to the Resource Maori Teacher for an area which includes the Wanganui River, National Park, Raetihi, Ohakune, and Waiouru. He will supervise three teachers in this area who are trialling the New Maori Language syl-

labus. "He has taught at every level during his time here," said Miss Tipene, a senior teacher. "He is renowned for his musical

ability, in particular the guitar and piano." For the last year and a half he has taught Maori Dimension in the school.

Golf played on the 1 September saw P Mowatt and L Drinkwater share lst place on 31 points. Senior Men: W Marsh 38 points, J Corbett, T Tapp, G Allerby all on j 37. Juniors: C Heinold 41 I points. The zones team of T Tapp, B Drinkwater, W Marsh and H Geraghty scored a six to nil win against Apiti to take the club through to the finals. The annual play for the Cascade Cup saw Taihape win for the second year in succession, The 36-hole tournament has been transferred to 29 September.
