Urgent action on derelict Raetihi buildings called

The council should act urgently on the matter of derelict buildings in Raetihi, said Waimarino Community Board member John Compton at their last meeting. He cited three buildings, Turner's Butchers, The Golden Acre, and the dry-cleaning building, as dangerous derelict buildings. Despite regularly being boarded up youths were constantly breaking into the buildings and wrecking what was left inside. Mr Compton said he was concerned at the activities going on inside the buildings and the safety of the youths considering the potential fire hazard. The call for urgency is the latest of several made by Mr Compton.
