Top tank trophy

BY

JO

HOWIE

Last week 16 crews and their Scorpion tanks competed for the crew trophy. The trophy rewards the top troop and crew in Queen Alexandra Squadron. The assessment is done over a period of seven days and occurs annually. Lt David de Koning, LCpl Nick Connell and Tpr Justin Thompson

were the winning crew of Scorpion Number 13. The competitors trained for a month for this trophy. "What we were assessed on is what we do all year around," said Lt David de Koning. David is the first officer ever to be a part of the winning crew of three. The activities each crew were assessed on were: the battlerun, skill

at arms, an observation post, an advance to contact, an ambush/vehicle check point, drill and theory including general knowledge, trade knowledge, communications and armoured vehicle recognition. David said the competition also gives the Squadron Commander an indication of the level of training the squadron is at.
