Festival fun in Ohakune

The place to be this Thursday night is shopping at Ohakune with a "Twilight Festival" this Thursday, from 3.30 to 8.30pm. The aim of the festival is to promote the New Zealand Winter Games which start at the end of next week, and to provide visitors, and locals, with something special during the School Holidays. - Almost all the Ohakune shops will have Festival specials, some of them a little unusual, such as Jean City's giveaway mulled wine. Watch out for heaps more. Stores have got behind the promotion and have decorated their windows in the NZ Winter Games colours, ready to be judged for the best. Ruapehu Lions will be setting up a "gigantic" sausage sizzle, and local sports and community groups have been asked to set up stalls in the town for their fund-raising

activities. (Groups are asked to contact Bob Norling at Ohakune TV & Electrical or Jan Bunn at Jean City to book stall space). Ski FM Radio Station isorganising 1000 helium filled balloons to give away to children who come along to the festival. Turoa's Snow Hostesses will be there with their best friend, the Turoa Yeti. St John Ambulance are planning to offer "warrant of fitness" checks for people, and a group of gymnasts helped by the Waimarino Sports Development Fund organisers, will be showing their skills. For dedicated followers of fashion there's a dress-up competition with a difference. Budding fashion designers can try their hand in the first-ever Ruapehu Bulletin Fashion Awards. You can enter any style attire you like

- there' s only one category, split into separate age groups. BUT, your fashion creation must be made

completely from newspaper! Judging is outside the Ohakune King's Theatre, at 6.30pm. (Please don't

use this week's Buletin - come and see us eit 1 Rata St - we've got ipts of old newspaper!). See you there!
