Pony club trip
A nine member New Zealand Pony Club team which toured Australia recently was coached by Waimarino rider Anne Roke. The Bi Annual event of the Intcr Pacific Pony Club Rally was this year hosted by Australia. They gathercd with Canada, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia at Melboumc for the start of a 24 day tour. The aim of the rally is to promotc the pony club movemcnt and the equestrian sport generally as well as providing an opportunity for intcrnational fricndship and understanding.
Thrce competitions were hcld during the tour and a vcry good standard of horses were made available for each event. Victoria hosted a one day event in Tooridin. The countrics rode in scramble teams for this, as they did for the sporting event which was hosted by Quecnsland in Rockhampton. New South Walcs hosted the Nations Cup at Camdon, at the Sugarloaf Equestrian Centre. This was a show-jumping compctition whcre each country compcted as a nation. Aftcr the qualifying rounds, Canada, Australia and New Zealand were on cqual points. This meant a jump-off betwecn the teams. New Zealand were succcssful in winning the event, with the most clear rounds in the best time.
