Raetihi visitor centre opened
Visitors to Raetihi can now obtain information on the town more easily, with the opening of an information centre last week. The centre, set up by the fledgling Raetihi
Development Group, is to be run through the school holidays on a trial basis. Well-known ultra distance runner Ziggy Bauer has volunteered to man the centre, with help from a group of Raetihi women. At the official opening last week thanks went to John Dobson for providing the use of the building and to Bernice Frost, Barbara Anderson and Chris Christiansen for their work. Raetihi Primary School pupils were also thanked for their help. At the opening, after Mr Bauer welcomed everyone, Reverend Tom Hawera blessed the building, Rev Bob Peck led the gathering in prayer, Bruce Dobson
spoke of the group's plans for the town, and Ruapehu mayor Garrick Workman officially opened the centre. "It's great to be here in Raetihi to see
something positive happening," said Mr Workman. "Raetihi has had more than its share of knock backs and it needs things like this to happen."
Mr Bauer asked that Raetihi people pass on information about their activities and about the town, so that he could . more effectively providejj information. •
