Skiers take out poles

Skiing is both a blessing and a curse for power suppliers King Country Energy. While the ski industry is by far and away the largest purchaser of King Country Energy's power, its devotees create quite a bit of additional work. Chief engineer Colin Martin said the two poles reported as being knocked over by motor vehicles in the Ohakune area were only the "tip of the iceberg". Errant skiers in vehicles have caused a lot of other damage, he said. "Skiers seem to drive at 300 mph and they've knocked a large number of poles down."
