New computers for Raetihi School
Raetihi Primary School has recently bought nine new computers for it's pupils. The school is now equipped with Amiga 500s and Apple computers, 15 in all. "We are wanting our pupils to gain experience with computers to keep up with modern technology", said Raetihi Primary School's Principal, Doug McLean. "We are hoping that the computers will enhance the pupils' writing skills, let them gain keyboard dexterity and help the older pupils with mathematics and geography." The computers will be
installed once the teachers become familiar with them. "The teachers are very enthusiastic and are taking an Advanced Studies Teachers Unit in their own time", said Mr McLean. The ASTU course is for one year and is designed to help them learn all they need to know about computers. "I think that the computers are a very positive step for the future", said Mr McLean. One computer will be installed in each class room. This will allow all Raetihi Primary School pupils, from five year olds to form two, to use them.
