Flies under attack soon

Waimarino flies are in for trouble - Ohakune School children are plotting to catch them en masse next term. The pupils will take part in a nation-wide "Operation Flystrike" research project for schools, which is a national survey of blowflies to find out about the spread of Australian green blowflies, Lucilia cuprina, and establish if there are any changes in the prevalence of other species. The project aims to provide information to help the control of the scourge of flystrike, so will be of real value to the farming community. Children will trap and count green, blue and brown blowflies, sending green ones to Wallaceville Animal Research Institute.
