Ruapehu's summer promoted

A group of Ruapehu tourist operators is planning a promotion of this area's summer attractions, similar to the successful Ski Ruapehu campaign. The promotion would include summer tourist activities operators, accommodation houses, and other businesses that would benefit from increased summer tourism. The group hopes to gather 40 businesses to each put in $1000 towards the campaign which could include a brochure, advertising, newspaper inserts and travel agency contact or other types of promotion of the attractions the area has to offer in summer.

Also to be looked at are package travel deals for people to visit the area and take part in the various outdoor activities in the area. Transport is also seen as an area to be looked at with many budget travellers calling in to the area now, but soon leaving because there is no easy public transport to get them to and from the various activities. Decisions on the promotion will be made in open committee by the people taking part in the joint promotion project. Also seen as a benefit of such a project would be the incrcased knowledge of the activities and businesses in the area.
