Crime draws readers' comments
Rising Crime • Just recently the talk of the town has been the proposed freezing works and the on going objections, but there is one other topic that needs to be talked about and that is the rising crime rate in Raetihi at the moment. In the last month I know of seven break ins to shops etc. Also I
heard of a cattle beast being shot and removed from a local farm. This offence used to be one of the most punishable crimes but today is common place. Raetihi is no longer a place of trust and honesty. It is a place where shearing gear is stolen along with motorbikes etc. almost to order. The trouble is some-
one must know who it is that is giving our town the bad name and a high crime rate. I hope they sleep well. Maybe the time has come for a lot harsher penalties to be handed out, if not by the law then by the more honest
people of Raetihi who don't want a town full of people with absolutely no regard for others property and well-being.

llliterate Graffiti
• I would like to shine a light on the person who "attempted" graffiti
on my shop window recently. Due to the pathetic attempt to spell "Shitta" I had a large volume of people making comment and thus booking appointments. However, if you feel the urge to reflect antiestablishment views around town, it would be more beneficial to us all if we could understand
exactly what you are trying to say and why. Get an education. It will help.

Images Movie thanks • On behalf of the Ohakune PTA, with regard to the recent film evening "Dances With Wolves". The PTA would like to express its gratitude to the many people
who assisted. Many thanks to Bruce Thompson for the use of the theatre, Robert Milne and the Bulletin publicity, Berry's Bookshop for selling tickets, and to the many people who came along and supported the school. The evening was a great success due to the support of everyone who helped. Thanks again. CM Leow Secretary, Ohakune PTA Hoon swoon • A mate of mine has been joking lately about loading up his shotgun with salt and going hoon hunting. He's sick to the back teeth of Ohakune Junction hoons - skiers and locals - yelling and screaming in the streets at all hours of the morning, vandalising public property as well as his own property as they stagger past his front gate. He says the police don't do anything - they're probably too busy somewhere else. When it gets beyond a joke I'm frightened he's going to take his plan beyond a joke and actually blast at the buggers, which of course is stooping to beyond their level. But who could blame him when it happens night after night and he and his family are driven nuts by it all?
