Around the mountains relay aimed at the military
Organfsers of this year's popular Around the Mountains Relay plan to encourage more military teams for this year's event. The Army-organised event is scheduled for 19 October. "In recent years the number of military teams has been dropping off and more and more civilian teams are entering," said ATMR spokesman Capt Jim O'Carrol. "This is not the intention of
the ATMR 91 Committee who would like to see maximum participation from military teams." Changes to this year's event have been made to meet the intent of the run. "While the event is intended to be competitive, the atmosphere and rivalry sought is in the manner of a 'fun run'" said Capt O'Carrol. This year a Social Grade has been introduced, with 10 $300
prizes to be allocated at random, with no prize for first teams home. Prizes for the competitive grades, which are the same as other years, include $1000 for the first Open Grade team and $500 for the first of each of the other grade teams. Eligible this year are all employees of the Ministry of Defence, and selected civilian clubs which may be invited. For safety on the
course, large buses, trucks and bicycles are prohibited for participants. Early morning runners are to wear re-
flective clothing, and pacing of runners by team mates, either running, in vehicles or on bikes, is not allowed.
