Turoa still on for top season...
Despite recent bad weather which has closed Turoa Ski Resort, the field is on target to match last year's record-setting skier numbers. Turoa general manager Angus Grimwade said last year's figure of 150,000 skier-days was achievable this year, given better weather pattems. "This year was shaping up very well up until soon after mid-term break but with the
variable weather the season has stalled a little," said Mr Grimwade. "Another good ski season like last year will allow Turoa to consolidate." The electrification of the field was paying big benefits not only to the operators but to skiers, said Mr Grimwade. "Electrification is running smooth as clockwork," he said. An unannounced development this year
has been the extra grooming on Turoa, due to the better snow base. Mr Grimwade said mountain manager Grant McMasters had been working to ensure the groomers cut more new trails including several fall-line trails to "enhance skier's enjoyment". "We've got a tremendous team of good groomer drivers this year," said Mr Grimwade. "I don't think they could do better."
