Civil Defence people sought for HQ
Volunteers are being sought to be on stand-by to operate the Waimarino's Civil Defence headquarters in the event of an emergency. Ruapehu Civil Defence controller Karen Ngati told the Waimarino Community Board last week there is a civil defence search and rescue group already organised, with the help of Mr Don
Robinson, but that they needed about 16 volunteers for the HQ staff. Three shifts would be needed, she said, because any emergency could last several days. Civil Defence operations training would be provided once the team is chosen, she said. Tasks would involve operating radios and telephones, recording in-
formation and catering for the civil defence crews in the field. A sector controller is also needed, she said. That person would need to be a good leader but not someone who would already have other CD commitments. She asked that names of suitable people be forwarded to the council's Ohakune or Raetihi offices.
