Busy ski weekend

Despite large numbers of skiers visiting Ruapehu on the weekend queue times were down on other weekends. With almost all facilities operating at both Turoa and Whakapapa, and with good snow on and off trail, skiers were spread out widely. About 5000 people visited Whakapapa each day and a total of about 6000 people visited Turoa on the weekend. Problems on the Ohakune Mountain Road, with cars loosing traction and blocking the road, caused long delays for many people. Turoa said they had done all they could to alleviate the problems.
