Adult rider numbers increase
Membership of the Waimarino Adult Riding Club is slowly increasing - a good sign - said the club president Evelyn Cooper in her recent annual report. The biggest problem the club members face is horse transport, she said, but this is pooled as much as possible. Treks during the year were run in the Waiouru army land and on Kimberley Station. Dressage instruction was provided by Judy Simpson from Turakina on five occasions. Exam passes for the year included: Grade 1 Riding; Cindy Collett,
Eileen Gotlieb, Graham Hill, Tracey McGregor and Jenny Mottram; Grade II Riding Cindy Collett, Graham Hill, Tracey McGregor; Grade III Riding Heather Cooper, Helene Godfrey; Grooms I Graham Hill, Tracey McGregor, Jenny Mottram; Grooms II Heather Cooper, Debbie Hill. Members took advantage of every local competition, said Mrs Cooper, including the Waimarino A&P, Karioi Sports, and the Pony Club Gamblers and ODE days hosted at Roke's property. A team of four riders, Graham and Debbie Hill, Helene Godfrey and Evelyn Cooper travelled to the North Island Team Championships at Litchfield in December gaining 6th place overall. The club hopes to raise funds to aid such trips. Mrs Cooper thanked Berry's Bookshop for their sponsorship, club members for their support and especially secretary Helene Godfrey for her efforts. Officers elected for this year were: President Evelyn Cooper, vice president Joy Pointon, Secretary treasurer Adrienne Maru and all members on the committee.
