Artists called for annual awards
Organisers of the Ohakune Art Awards are working hard again on plans for this .year's event. They are calling for entries to this year's exhibition - labelled one of the country's most prestigious regional art awards, attracting many artists of established reputation, in its catchment area between Levin and Hamilton. The exhibition's dates have been changed this year to fit in with the calendar of the New Zealand Winter Games and Mt Ruapehu Winter Festival, and will again be held at the Ohakune Primary School Hall. In addition to the premier award of $2000 there is now an open class catering for works in all media, with an award of $1500 to be allocated at the judge's discretion; an award for best entry from a permanent resident of the Waimarino District; the Barnes Young Artist Award; and the Life Study Award. The preview evening is to be held Sunday 15 September and the exhibition runs from Monday 16 September to 12 noon Saturday 21 September.
