Music success

Modern School of Music Competitions held in Wanganui on Saturday 29 June attracted entries from Taranaki, Taihape and Ohakune as well as from Wanganui. Ohakune youngsters entering their first music competitions were Christine Sue and Dwayne and Katrina Marsh. All are pupils of Ann Greenwood, Ohakune. Classes were held for piano, electronic organ, keyboard and guitar. Gold silver and bronze medals were given in each class with cups or trophies for the overall winner in each age group. Christine and Dwayne entered the Classical Piano class for 9 years and under. They played well,, Dwayne winning the Own Choice and Christine being placed 2nd equal in both the Own Choice and Test Piece. Katrina gained placings in all classes in the 10-12 age group, finishing just a few points behind the overall winner, Rachael Sturzaker from Hawera. Katrina's placings were: Test 3rd ,Sight reading 2nd, Own choice 2nd equal. Judge for piano classes was Mrs Della Davis of Wellington.
