Waimarino women take to rugby
BY LINEOUT Women's rugby is here to stay if Sundays tournament held at Rochfort Park is anything to go by. The Wanganui Rugby Union allocated the games to be played at Ohakune and a large crowd turned out to watch. The favourite team was the War^ ji Counties who were expected to give the Raetihi Women a high scoring game because they had beaten Wanganui Pirates women 88-0 last week. But all they could manage was a 21-4 win.In the first game Marist versus Ohakune the local ladies were unlucky to lose. They were the better team but just could not finish off on their many attacks for the line. Nicky Inwood "NZ ladies All Black" ap-
peared in the Marist team but went off injured. The Wilson sisters played well in the local team having a good grasp of the basics of the game. But "Big Bad Mau Akapita" was the star player of the team. Of the Raetihi team' Cherie Hansen played well as a loose forward and Renee Bloxham, Cheryl Hinana and Michelle Kui went well in the backline. Results: Marist 4 - Ohakune 0, Taihape 26 - Wanganui Pirates 0, Wanganui Counties 21 - Raetihi 4.
