Waiouru teacher "from Moscow"

BYJOSAUNDERS Wendy Murray is the new teacher in the junior department at Waiouru primary. She is relieving in Mr Pohatu's position and, is teaching special needs children and relieving for teachers on study leave. Wendy has just returned from nine months in Moscow. She was accompanying her fiance.David Hannagan, on an army posting. He was the maintenance officer at the New Zealand Embassy in Moscow. Previous to Moscow he was an electrician in the Engineers squadron at Burnham. Two weeks ago he left Moscow to come to Waiouru to attend the Officer Cadet School as

an Officer Cadet. Wendy found Moscow fascinating.'Tt was like stepping back in time 30 years. The motor vehicles were old designs, and the clothes were old fashioned and archaic. The people had little freedom of choice and everything in their lives was controlled," said Wendy. "To purchase anything takes hours.I would have to queue to look, then get in another queue to buy, then queue again to get your bought article.Unbelievable." Wendy did her teachers training from 19841987, and had one year at Massey University completing her degree. She has had three years teaching experience, and

privately tutored in Moscow. She hopes to

get her own class next term.
