Waiouru suffers shock loss
The Waiouru senior rugby team's unbeaten record ended on Saturday when they were beaten by Hunterville 23-16. "They deserved to win,
they were the better team on the day," said Waiouru team manager Hugh Trengrove. The Waiouru team was missing many key players due to Army courses and field exercises, which forced some forwards to play in the backs, and there were no reserves. This is always a complication for Army teams. Their unusual lifestyle often conflicts with weekend sport. For the firs 20 minutes, Waiouru showed dominance, then Huntervilles forwards took control for the next 40 minutes which produced three tries to one. Waiouru tried to rally in the last 20 minutes but it was too late. With the pressure off Waiouru to keep an unbeaten record, they can now try to achieve their aim to make the Division One final.
