Tourist power
Take-away bars, restaurants and motels were the largest consumer group for King Country Energy last year, according to statistics just tabled with the board's annual report. Saies of electricity to this sector contributed nearly $1.5 million, compared with $837,825 for the next highest sector - food processing. Saies to skifields added a further $624,889, making tourism the largest contributor to the local economy - at least as far as electricity saies are concemed. Retail estabiishments used $580,100 worth of power, while government services and prisons added a further $538,480 to King Country Energy revenues. Farming customers
were the next biggest sector group with $496,708 worth of power used, but it was only marginally above schools, health and churches with $456,045.
